Once a vacant lot - now an inspirational example of what "Green" can be. Soaring walls of glass, interchangeable work areas and slick concrete floors punctuate the true functionality of the working level of this structure. Reclaimed Oak floors in the upper living area delineate work and relaxation. A spectacular rooftop garden is as large as it is inviting. 'Architectural Dichotomy' would be the term used to best describe this residence. Modern Architecture meets Historic Craftsman. With its recent addition and facelift, this home now meets the demands of this active urban family. While the windows, flooring, fireplace and details were left intact in the original residence, there exists a clever interaction between the two vastly different architectural forms. Walls of glass in the new living area create the ultimate "outdoor kitchen" within a clean, minimal setting.

This 1948 ranch was remodeled by two interior designers as their own residence. The new contemporary layout features unique architectural detailing to showcase artwork, bold use of color and an unusual 'terrazzo look' ground concrete floor. The open plan facilitates entertaining, and walls of glass embrace outdoor views including two private courtyards.

A year long renovation began on a 1970's Al Beadle row house. Today, it has been transformed into this personal and luxurious contemporary home. A long collaboration between the owner, architect and landscape architect, the result is a quiet but powerful statement about indoor/outdoor living, serene space, and the balance between art and architecture.

Built in 1958, this residence Arcadia suburb of Phoenix, Arizona, is considered to be a perfect example of the "prototypical" Ranch House architecture - the dominant style of suburban expansion of the 20th Century. A low rambling structure opening directly onto outdoor porches, board-and-batten exterior with painted brick, cedar shake roof, an open floor plan, a living room picture window onto the backyard - almost every typical element can be found here. Having raised four children here, the home is now setup for just the owners, with an expanded master bedroom suite, a work out room, a single comfortable guest bedroom for visiting grandchildren, and plenty of space for indoor/outdoor living and entertaining.

The renovations have focused on preserving the historic architecture, while updating with 21st Century luxuries - keeping the warm, casual simplicity of the original plan. It is the furnishings that really update this home. Clean lined traditional with an edge. The contemporary kitchen is a standout with views of the newly landscaped backyard that includes, of course, large beautiful trees. This is Arcadia, after all!

Set within a pocket of hip-roofed 1950's ranch-style homes, the owners have remarkably designed an organically modern home honoring those of their neighbors. Based in classical principles and current materials, this residence boasts subtle Japanese sensibilities, while still retaining a mid-century feel. Form-lined, cast-in-place concrete walls and expansive pocketed glass doors blur the lines between the open interior and exterior living spaces. Situated between two functioning washes and sequestered with creosote and native trees, this home truly exemplifies the embodiment of Tennen Studio... ('Tennen' meaning, 'Existing in Nature')

Nestled into a residential enclave near Camelback Mountain, the personal residence of interior and architectural designer celebrates Modernist traditions in a 21st-century desert context. Layers of detail unfold as you tour the home. While you cannot miss the architecture's strong geometry or the interior's sumptuous touches, you will also come to appreciate the nuances that set this home apart. Panel walls that do not quite reach the ceiling and lighting placed in the ground impart a floating feeling to the home. The rich wall treatments and upholsteries like silk, duchess satin and silk-velvet invite you to burrow in for the winter. And organic elements, whether the walnut slab in the powder room or the branch-like door handles, impart an earthiness tempered by the home's luxury. It is an exercise in beauty that reveals itself to the visitor one inspiring piece at a time.

Native plantings have been beautifully enhanced with a mass of indigenous species. The home is modern and sophisticated yet organically calming. A black negative edge pool, bamboo garden and relaxation pavilion all provide the perfect retreat.

This spectacular adobe, located on three pristine acres of desert in Paradise Valley, was the first home built by Arizona's treasured architect and fine artist, Bill Tull. Over the years, Paradise Valley has grown around this historic gem. It is now one of only a small group of original adobe residences that remain intact - and has been lovingly restored by its owners.

Interior Designer Matthew Boland, principal of MMB Studio in Scottsdale, led a very talented team in updating the home, while maintaining its tranquil charm. The interiors are considered contemporary Spanish Colonial. They feature a refined mix of exceptional quality Spanish Colonial antiques, modern art and clean lined upholstery pieces. The Pool House and Main House garages are recent additions to the property but blend perfectly into the original architecture.
