PHOENIX (June 24, 2013) Len Stewart has been named the new Executive Director at Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS. Recently, Stewart was the Executive Director of Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center. He served in this position at Alaska's largest federally qualified health center since 2011.
Before Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center, Stewart was the Director of Human Services for Mesa County, Colorado; Director of Human Services for Barnstable County, Massachusetts; and Executive Director at AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod, Massachusetts. He brings an extensive background in other healthcare leadership roles as well.
Among his many accomplishments, Len led the transformation to Patient Centered Medical Home certification at Anchorage Neighborhood Health Center; launched a County-wide anti-poverty initiative, "Bridges Out of Poverty" in Mesa County; and established a needle exchange program and built supported housing for People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A) at AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod.
"I am excited at the opportunity to join Southwest Center and be part of the important work it does for people living with HIV and AIDS, those affected by the disease, and the Phoenix community, commented Stewart.
"Through the generous support of the community and major donors like Bob and Renee Parsons, the new Center, The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation Health, Education and Wellness Center, will be able to dramatically expand its services in the next few months. I look forward to joining the committed board members, staff and volunteers and being part of that growth."
Stewart hails from Massachusetts and is a graduate of Duke University. He will begin his position as Executive Director at Southwest Center on July 8, 2013.
Ken Gabel, Southwest Center's Board Chair, stated, "We are so pleased to have Len joining Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS as its Executive Director. We are seeing a changing environment with this disease; who it is impacting; the way in which people are impacted; and the needs of the community. Having Len lead us through these changes with his
extensive experience and great passion, will be an ideal match for the agency."
