Behavioral Health

The Behavioral Health Outpatient Clinic (BHOC) at the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS is licensed with the Arizona Department of Health Services Office of Behavioral Health Licensure. The BHOC offers individual, family, couples and group counseling to HIV-positive adults with mental health and/or behavioral health issues. Our specialty areas include, but are not limited to:

  • Adjustment issues
  • Depression
  • Behavioral issues
  • Anxiety disorders
  • Relationship issues
  • Substance abuse
  • Grief and loss
  • Sexual identity
  • Psychological testing
  • Gay, bisexual, lesbian, transgender (GBLT) issues

The BHOC strives to improve the lives of the clients by helping them and their families understand the profound impact that HIV/AIDS has on mental health. Living with HIV/AIDS can affect one's overall health and quality of life, and the lives of family and friends. The BHOC recognizes the link between mental health and immune system performance, and provides counseling and treatment plans that include various therapeutic approaches that address mental and behavioral health issues. Treatment goals include, but are not limited to:

  • Increasing personal awareness
  • Increasing personal responsibility and acceptance
  • Identifying personal treatment goals
  • Recognizing changes necessary to achieve treatment goals
  • Promoting wholeness through psychological treatment and/or psychological and spiritual healing and growth
