At the Southwest Center for HIV/AIDS, some support groups exist for men and women separately. As broad as a gender-specific group sounds, there are sub groups under each category that address the needs of that particular group. And because so many different issues arise for HIV-positive individuals, the distinction of individual sub groups becomes more and more important. Unique issues exist within different demographics, and specified groups allow individuals the opportunity to connect with others like themselves about their shared experiences. We provide a place where individuals have a safe place to share those experiences and empathize with one another in a safe setting. Coping skills, facing life’s challenges and developing support systems are just a few of the benefits HIV-positive individuals gain from attending regularly scheduled meetings. New groups form when the need arise. Download a listing of all groups or visit our calendar for details.
